During the February 5th Nintendo Direct, TAMSOFT CORPORATION and Bandai Namco took many by surprise by officially revealing Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters, a new title based on Yoichi Takahashi’s magnum opus and a direct sequel to 2020’s Rise of New Champions.
According to its official site, World Fighters will feature an increased base roster including 22 national teams — going from Tsubasa’s Japan, to Brazil, Germany, and France — as well as more than 110 playable characters, including both manga fan favorites and new arrivals. It was also confirmed that never-before-seen special moves will be present as part of its 150+ arsenal. As you can see in its trailer below, the game is set to cover the events of the Battle of World Youth arc and follow Japan’s rise to the U-20 World Cup title.
Through an announcement post, Namco also confirmed that World Fighters will support character creation, a staple in most games based on the franchise, and feature revamped gameplay mechanics, which promise to make matches and their pivotal moments even more dynamic. You can check out a few screenshots below, showcasing players like Carlos Santana and Elle Sid Pierre.
Captain Tsubasa 2 World Fighters did not receive a specific release date, but it is scheduled to debut in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (via Steam), and both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. You can check out more details by heading to its official site.
While you wait for its arrival, fans can still buy and play Rise of New Champions on PS4/PS5, PC via Steam, and on both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
