Famously, Captain America retired from the Avengers and lived out his days with Peggy Carter in blissful domestic peace at the end of Avengers: Endgame. It was a whole thing, one that felt like a worthy chapter-closing page to Chris Evans' character he'd spent a decade playing and wowing audiences at the box office.
And over the course of those years, Steve Rogers had a few trusty objects that he always relied on. Obviously, you have the whole Vibranium shield, his suits, America's ass, and Bucky. Yet, the one that always caught my eye, apart from America's ass, was his penchant for American steel. Specifically, Rogers' love for Harley-Davidsons.
Indeed, throughout the films, Cap was always on the back riding a big-ole hog. And while it's unclear whether he ever said "BROTHER!", we can assume he did at least once. But everything about what I just said is changing, as not only did the House of Mouse not allow Evans to fully retire the Captain America mantle for Avengers: Doomsday, but his Harley-Davidson has been traded for a decidedly less American British-made Triumph.
Say what?!
The first teaser trailer for the upcoming Avengers film dropped yesterday, with the trailer's thumbnail prominently showing the aforementioned Triumph motorcycle. When asked which model it was, a Triumph representative told us it's a vintage motorcycle that's been enhanced for the movie. The subsequent opening to the teaser then shows Rogers riding the motorcycle along a picturesque road leading up to the house where he settled down with Peggy during the aftermath of the fight with Thanos. Yes, I'm a big freakin' nerd.
You then get the tease that Rogers is now a dad, as he's shown in the house, a wedding ring on his finger, holding a baby. And that's it.
Now, if you're a Marvel fan, you know that everything is intentional. Everything has a purpose. Everything was decided upon. Except for Phase 5 and parts of Phase 6. We don't talk about Phase 5...shudder... That makes the motorcycle swap intentional, and is gonna lead the die-hard fandom into a frenzied Always Sunny whiteboard conspiracy spiral. And you'd better believe I'm on that train.
Firstly, where's Peggy?! Is the switch from an American-made Harley to a British Triumph Steve's subtle way of honoring Peggy, who may have died?! If so, why is he showing up at the house by himself on a motorcycle? Why's he by his lonesome picking up a baby? There's also the rumor that Marvel is adapting one of the Doom storylines that sees Robert Downey Jr's—yep, RDJ is back, too—Victor Von Doom stealing all the superpowered kids of the multiverse for his Battleworld arc. So is that even Steve's kid? Or is it evil Captain America, and he's straight-up stealing that child?
I mean, he played a heel version of his Jonny Storm character for Deadpool & Wolverine, sooo.
Whatever the case may be, and there are like a trillion other rumors and conspiracy theories, we'll have to wait and see as Avengers: Doomsday doesn't drop in theaters until Christmas 2026. Yep, we've got a full year to wait.
