Candice King and Julie Plec are set to reunite for a new Prime Video series titled We Were Liars. The duo previously collaborated on the hit series The Vampire Diaries, with King in a starring role and Plec as the creator. The Vampire Diaries enjoyed a successful eight-season run from 2009 to 2017.
We Were Liars, as reported by Deadline, will see King and Plec team up once again for the development of this new series. Joining King in the cast are Mamie Gummer and Caitlin FitzGerald. The upcoming show is an adaptation of the popular E. Lockhart YA novel of the same name.
The narrative of We Were Liars delves into the lives of the affluent Sinclair family, who lead what seems to be a perfect existence on a private island near Massachusetts. The storyline evolves into a captivating tale that combines elements of a tragic love story and an amnesia thriller.
Gummer, FitzGerald, and King will portray the three Sinclair sisters in the series. Gummer is set to play Carrie Sinclair, while FitzGerald takes on the role of Penny Sinclair, and King will embody Bess Sinclair. Each sister brings their unique characteristics to the story, with Carrie being the eldest, Penny embracing the wealthy suburban woman stereotype by favoring unsalted almonds, and Bess navigating the challenges of motherhood while being married into the Sinclair family dynasty.
We Were Liars is under the direction of Carina Adly MacKenzie and is a joint production of Universal Television and Amazon MGM studios. MacKenzie and Plec will serve as writers and executive producers of the series. Lockhart, the original author of We Were Liars, will also be an executive producer, ensuring the integrity of the adaptation.
While the release date for We Were Liars is yet to be announced, the initial details surrounding the series promise an intriguing and compelling storyline that fans of the novel and newcomers alike can look forward to.
