Patients who took part in an experimental drug trial have all seen their cancer disappear, say researchers. Experts behind the trial believe this is the first time ever that every participant of a trial has had a successful outcome.
Although the study was small - 12 people have so far completed more than six months of treatment - the results have been described as "remarkably effective" by those who carried it out. The findings were published in The New England Journal of Medicine on Sunday.
Speaking to the New York Times, one of the authors of the paper, Dr Luis Diaz, of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, said he knew of no other study which wiped out cancer in every patient. He told them: "I believe this is the first time this has happened in the history of cancer."
