A 26-year-old trainee teacher has been charged in the ACT Magistrates Court with sexual offences against a 15-year-old student.

Petra Shasha was arrested at her home in Canberra's south after an investigation by ACT Policing's Sexual Assault and Child Abuse team, sparked by a tip-off about an inappropriate relationship between a student teacher and a male student.

On Monday, she appeared by video link from the court cells, when she was formally charged with using a carriage service to transmit indecent material to a young person and committing an act of indecency on someone under 16.

The offences are alleged to have occurred between November 2020 and February this year.

Prosecutors did not oppose bail but asked Magistrate Beth Campbell to make the strict conditions clear to Ms Shasha after concerns she had tried to contact the teenage boy.

Under the court orders, Ms Shasha has agreed not to contact the teen directly or indirectly, and to stay away from three specific Canberra schools.

The case will return to court next month.
