The most expensive apartment in Canberra - and one of the largest - has been quietly sold after a year of campaigning.
Known as Jewel in the Crown, the five-bedroom penthouse within the Sapphire development at 45 Honeysett View, Kingston, was listed for $8 million in June 2024.
The Canberra Times understands it sold just short of that price in early October.
The home set a record for apartment sales in Canberra, but fell short of the $9 million record for a standalone house, which was set more than two years ago in Deakin.
Along with five bathrooms, the penthouse has luxury finishes, including a brass-detailed whisky bar, a kitchen designed for a private chef and a music atrium.
The previous owners used the space to house a Steinway concert grand piano.
Large windows give a light-filled outlook over the Kingston foreshore, offering access to the changing seasons at all times of year.
Two outdoor kitchens and three terraces, a spa and a fire pit complete the three-level home.
The Sapphire apartment complex was developed by Keggins and designed by Melbourne architecture firm Elenberg Fraser.
It was completed in 2020, but the penthouse took another 18 months to finish.
When it was first listed for sale in October 2023, the property was expected to surpass the current house price record, however that came into doubt earlier this year.
The Canberra Times contacted selling agents at Blackshaw Manuka who were unable to comment.
Selling agent Mario Sanfrancesco previously said buyers both locally and interstate had shown an interest in the penthouse.
"The feedback has been that it's spectacular, it's simply stunning, that it's well worthy of being named the Jewel in the Crown," he said in June.
At the time, Mr Sanfrancesco said a couple of "very serious offers" had been made.
