A 37-year-old Canberra man has been charged with the murder of his 36-year-old partner, who died after sustaining a "number of injuries" in September last year.
Police said Adam James Britt called ACT emergency authorities to the home in Reid in Canberra's north on September 9, where they found a woman was badly injured.
Despite paramedics' efforts at the scene, his partner, Tiffany Spence, was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police said an investigation was initially unable to identify Ms Spence's cause of death, labelling it as "complex".
The investigation later indicated she had died from blunt-force trauma with police revealing "a weapon" was involved.
Mr Britt, who police allege was in a relationship "for some time" with Ms Spence, made a brief appearance via audiovisual link in the ACT Magistrates Court today.
He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.
The case was adjourned until February 16.
Prior to Mr Britt's court appearance, ACT Detective Superintendent Hall O'Meagher said police were treating the death as an act of domestic violence.
"Domestic violence is a problem in Canberra and is often a hidden problem. That is why we are urging people to report it," he said.
"Come forward, speak to [the] police and speak to support services that are available."
