A Canberra man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today accused of stabbing another man in the back in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Police allege that about 2am the 36-year-old from Belconnen went to the home of his ex-partner where he became involved in an altercation with the 42-year-old victim, stabbing him.

The 42-year-old was taken by paramedics to hospital in a critical condition.

Police said his condition had since stabilised and he was released from hospital.

They said ACT Policing officers went to a unit in Belconnen yesterday, where they then became involved in a two-hour stand-off with the alleged offender.

He was then finally arrested.

He has been charged with one count of recklessly/intentionally inflicting bodily harm.
