Some hockey goals will be immortalized by purists of the sport. This one will be immortalized by mathematicians.
Montreal Canadiens defenseman David Savard scored off of one of the craziest shots ever witnessed in Tuesday’s 4–3 overtime win over the Nashville Predators.
Seconds after the Predators scored their second goal of the night, Savard collected the puck at center ice after the face-off and swiftly found the back of Nashville's net by a sheer stroke of luck.
In the second quarter, Savard’s dump ricocheted off one of the metal stanchions in the seam of the glass and caught Predators goalie Juuse Saros off guard. While Saros was waiting behind the net anticipating the puck, what initially appeared to be a routine dump took a lucky bounce at the perfect angle and sent the puck straight into the net instead.

“Definitely lucky bounce, but you take all of those,” Savard said after the game. “I think we needed it. We just scored a big goal and to go right back to 2–2, was big for us. It gave us a little bit of wings to keep going.”
Montreal would come back from behind to beat the Predators thanks to Nick Suzuki’s overtime winner, snapping Nashville’s eight-game win streak. The Canadiens play the Hurricanes next on Thursday.
