Canadian speaker resigns after leading celebration of Nazi veteran in parliament

The speaker of Canada’s House of Commons resigned on Tuesday after he invited a man who fought for the Nazis during the Second World War to attend a speech by Volodymyr Zelensky.

Following Mr Zelensky’s address, Canadian lawmakers gave 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka a standing ovation, after speaker Anthony Rota drew attention to him. Rota introduced Hunka as a war hero who fought for the First Ukrainian Division.
