Canadian soccer player Moise Bombito faced racist messages on social media following a tackle on Lionel Messi during a 2-0 Copa America loss to Argentina. The Canadian National Team addressed the issue in a statement on social media, expressing deep concern over the racist comments directed at one of their players. The statement did not mention Bombito by name but highlighted the disturbing nature of the online abuse.

Canada Soccer confirmed their awareness of the situation and stated that they are in communication with CONCACAF and CONMEBOL regarding the matter. Bombito responded to the incident with an Instagram story post that alluded to the racism he experienced, emphasizing that such behavior has no place in Canada.

Despite the tackle by Bombito, Messi continued playing and even assisted in a goal as Argentina began their Copa America title defense. The incident sheds light on the ongoing issue of racism in sports and the need for greater awareness and action to combat such behavior.
