Canadian rapper K'naan, best known for his global hit 'Wavin' Flag,' has been charged with an alleged sexual assault dating back more than 14 years in Quebec City. The charge sheet filed at the courthouse in Quebec City states that K'naan, whose real name is Keinan Abdi Warsame, faces one count of sexual assault from July 2010.
The arrest warrant specifies that the assault reportedly occurred between July 16 and July 17, 2010, coinciding with the rapper's performance at Quebec City's Festival d'été de Québec. Despite the case being brought before the court, K'naan was not present, and his legal representatives were not immediately reachable for comment.
The victim, whose identity remains protected, was 29 years old at the time of the alleged assault. K'naan, originally from Somalia but raised in Toronto, currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, as indicated in the charge sheet.
On a separate note, K'naan was honored with the cultural impact award at Canada's SOCAN Awards on Tuesday for the widespread influence of his 2009 hit 'Wavin' Flag.'
