Queen Elizabeth II will be brought to her final resting place this afternoon, as the nation watches the historic state funeral take place for its longest-serving monarch.
The Queen’s coffin is making the final journey to St George's Chapel in Windsor, where Her Majesty will be buried alongside her late husband of 73 years Prince Philip . The King George VI Memorial Chapel where the Queen will be interred is also the resting place of her father, George VI and her mother Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, as well as the ashes of her sister Princess Margaret.
With thousands of mourners queuing for miles and enduring wait times of up to 14 hours to see the Queen lying-in-state at Westminster Hall, it’s expected that many will also want to visit Her Majesty’s grave when they are able to do so. Although Windsor Castle, where the chapel is situated, has been closed since the Queen’s death on September 8, visits to the Queen’s final resting place will be possible in time according to The Mirror .

A reopening date for the castle and chapel has not yet been announced, though this is expected to be after the period of royal mourning has ended, seven days after the Queen’s funeral on September 26. When it does reopen, St George’s Chapel will be open for visitors on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4.15pm (last entry is at 4pm).
It is closed to visitors on Sundays when services are being held, but worshippers are welcome to attend the sabbath services. There are also often services held during the week, with details to be posted on the chapel’s website when the castle is opened again.
Tickets for adult tourists to Windsor Castle cost £26.50 from Sunday to Friday, and £28.50 on Saturday, according to the Royal Collection Trust’s website. However, it's not yet known how close members of the public will be able to get to the Queen's grave when the chapel reopens.
St George’s Chapel has played host to many family occasions during the Queen’s lifetime, including the marriage of her son Prince Edward to Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and her grandson Prince Harry 's wedding to Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex.
