Andy Serkis asked his agent to put him up for "something decent" when he was first approached about appearing in 'The Lord of the Rings' franchise.
The 60-year-old actor was told movie bosses wanted to see him about a voice role "for a digital character", which didn't appeal much to Serkis, but he became more interested when told he was wanted to portray Gollum.
