The Boston Celtics control the No. 35 pick of the 2023 NBA draft via a trade that gave them the second-round pick originally owned by the Portland Trail Blazers. If the Celtics don’t trade it away as part of some other team-building deal, they will likely use it on an older prospect in the hopes of finding some cheap depth for the team.
But there is always a chance they strike gold in the second round as the Denver Nuggets famously did with Nikola Jokic. And former Boston point guard Isaiah Thomas was picked with the last selection of his draft class.
How often does that happen? Could the Celtics find a gem in this cohort of NBA prospects?
Check out the clip embedded above to hear the story of several such “found money” situations from players taken in the second round who have gone on to have productive — even star level — careers in the league.
