Marjorie Taylor Greene has been on her best “reformed conservative” behavior lately. The pearls, the soft interviews, and the sudden concern for “unity” almost convinced everyone she was a changed woman. Her whole NO-MAGA act was going great, and then she decided to go on 60 Minutes.
When host Lesley Stahl held up the mirror to Greene about her past, she instantly turned to her old ways. While the congresswoman was lecturing about toxic political culture on 60 Minutes, Stahl pointed out her hypocrisy. “But you contributed to that. You were out there pounding, insulting people,” she said straight to Greene’s face. Her response? Lunge back into MAGA outrage.
“Lesley, you’ve contributed to it as well with your own program,” Greene responded, turning the question back to the host. But Stahl knew how to handle her deflection. “I know you’re accusing me, but I’m smiling,” she clapped back. And right there, Greene’s makeover dropped 10 minutes into 60 Minutes. “You’re accusing me,” she said, but Stahl stood firm, “I am accusing.”
With no real answer for her past conduct, Greene switched to her soft voice and began her “let’s be nice to each other” routine. “We don’t have to accuse one another,” she said sweetly, as if Stahl was there to braid friendship bracelets. But Lesley was doing her job, so she delivered another blow. “I want you to respond to what you have done in terms of insulting people, yelling at people…” she asked, before Greene abruptly cut her off .
“I’d like for you to respond for that. No, you can respond to that,” Greene replied. It was like a toddler caught with markers on the wall, trying to get away by blaming the wall. Stahl asked Greene to explain her actions, and she responded by accusing Stahl of… asking her to explain her actions. The logic is dizzying unless you speak fluent MAGA, where accountability is always an attack.
When Stahl clarified, “I don’t insult people,” Greene still pushed the victim narrative. “You do — and the way you question — you’re accusing me right now,” she repeated. And just like that, the 40-second clip reminded everyone why the sweetheart act was never believable. The minute someone doesn’t play along, Greene loses her composure, and the “unity” costume evaporates.
The 40-second clip was enough to remind Americans that once a MAGA, will always be MAGA. Users on X quickly commented, “There she is. It’s hard to deny your true nature for too long. The real MTG is bound to show her ugly little soul sooner vs later.” Another added, “You can take the girl out of MAGA, but you can’t take MAGA out of the girl!” And they’re spot-on.
Deflecting the question instead of taking responsibility for your actions is the same playbook Trump uses in every interview. While she managed to fool Americans for a while after her resignation melodrama, people now know it’s all an act.
