Scotland suffered a three-goal defeat to Brazil in their final World Cup group stage match against Brazil.

Steve Clarke's side gifted Vinicius Jr an early opener as Scott McKenna's slack pass was intercepted with the Real Madrid star rounding Angus Gunn to knock home.

Jack Hendry escaped a second horror mistake for Scotland as VAR ruled out a Vinicius Jr strike for a foul on the Al Ettifaq stopper.

However, the winger would make it 2-0 just before half-time as he nodded home at the back post.

Mattheus Cunha would score Brazil's third in the second half as he stroked past Gunn.

Despite the heavy defeat, there is still a chance of progression for Scotland at the World Cup.

Scotland finished Group C in third position after beating Haiti to end on three points. But they ended with a negative three-goal difference.

At the World Cup, the eight best third-placed finishers across the group stage will advance to the last 32 of the competition.

But, Scotland will need to rely on results going in their favour for a shot at moving into the knockout stage.

According to Opta ahead of kick-off, a loss by three goals leaves Scotland with a 49.2 per cent chance of moving into the next round of the World Cup.

Scotland currently rank as the sixth-best side finishing third in the group stage but the majority of nations still have to play their third match.
