Can Mike Evans Reach 1,000 Yards For The 11th Straight Year?

Mike Evans has been the most consistent wide receiver in the NFL over the last decade. While rarely mentioned in the conversation with the best in the game, he has racked up at least 1,000 yards in every season since being drafted in 2014. But in order to reach the milestone in 2024, he’ll need to have some impressive performances during the final two weeks of the regular season.

Mike Evans Needs 182 Yards To Reach 1,000 In 2024

The all-time record is held by the greatest receiver to ever play the game. Starting with his second season in 1986, Jerry Rice put up 1,000+ yards for 11 straight years. It remains the longest streak in league history to this day, even with the rise of passing attacks and the addition of the 17th game.

Mike Evans is looking to tie Rice’s record this year. Entering Week 17, the Buccaneers wideout has 818 yards so far this season. He would need to average 91 yards over the next two games in order to reach the mark, which is well above what his production has been so far. His average in the 12 games that he’s played in is 68.2 yards per, meaning that he’ll have to outperform his usual self should he want to push the streak to 11.

He’d probably already have the achievement locked up if he had been healthy all season. During Tampa Bay’s Week 7 matchup with the Ravens, Evans injured his hamstring and was ruled out for an extended period. He wound up missing three games in the middle of the year, which has ultimately put his 1,000 yard streak in jeopardy.

The final two games for the Buccaneers will be played against division rivals in the Panthers and Saints. Carolina has given up the 10th-fewest receiving yards in the NFL in 2024, and may be able to hold Evans in check better than New Orleans. The latter has given up the 5th-most receiving yards this year, and have a secondary that Tampa Bay will certainly be looking to exploit.

Against the Saints back in October, Mike Evans had just two catches for 34 yards. Against the Panthers in early December, he caught 8 balls and racked up 118 yards.
