When the Washington Commanders selected wide receiver Dyami Brown in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft, many believed he would end up being one of the steals of the draft.
In his first NFL season, Brown appeared in 15 games, catching 12 passes for 165 yards for an average of 13.8 yards per reception. However, in most weeks, Brown was ineffective. And this was on a team that had little opposite of star wide receiver Terry McLaurin in 2021.
Instead of counting on Brown to improve in 2022, the Commanders chose Penn State wide receiver Jahan Dotson in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft. The early indications are that Dotson is a future star, with four touchdowns in his first four NFL games.
Where does that leave Brown?
The Commanders will be without Dotson for Sunday’s Week 5 game against the Tennessee Titans due to a hamstring injury. McLaurin and Curtis Samuel have two wide receiver spots locked in, so there will be an opportunity for someone else to step up. Will it be Cam Sims or Brown?
Sims always delivers when he has an opportunity, but the Commanders may be looking to see what Brown can do during a critical game. The Titans feature one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. So, if Washington can protect quarterback Carson Wentz, there could be opportunities for Brown to show everyone why some considered him a draft-day steal in 2021.
Brown is known for his deep-ball ability. Wentz likes to throw the deep ball — if he has time. The following catch against Trevon Diggs last season shows what Brown brings to the table.

If the Commanders call Brown’s number and he doesn’t deliver, it could be his last chance for a while.
