The $4 million attack advertisement featuring rival Amy Acton’s estranged mother has turned Vivek Ramaswamy’s Ohio gubernatorial campaign into a test of how far a Republican can go in an increasingly polarised election.
Ramaswamy entered the race with money, national name recognition and Donald Trump’s backing, advantages that should have made the contest in Republican-leaning Ohio relatively straightforward. Instead, his lead has evaporated as Acton has gained ground and more Americans disapprove of Trump and Republicans over economic issues.
