A KICKSTARTER campaign has been launched to fund the completion of a documentary which tells the story of the 2014 referendum on Scottish independence.
Award-winning director Jane McAllister captured the footage of the referendum campaign during the summer of 2014, despite having no budget for the film.
While heavily pregnant she followed her father, Yes campaigner Fraser McAllister, as the referendum unfolded in the east coast town of Musselburgh.
To See Ourselves is described as a “hopeful” and “authentic” re-telling of the referendum campaign.
“As Fraser works hard towards the re-birth of a nation his pregnant daughter, Jane carries both the camera and a new addition to the family... her baby was born the day after filming stopped," the description says.
“The No vote in 2014 was devastating for many, but this film ends with hope, not despair for the McAllisters, as new life brings a revived determination for the future.”
The Kickstarter campaign aims to raise £25,000 in order to complete the post-production of the film, host cinema screenings across the country with Q&A discussions with the director and make the film available on a video-on-demand platform.
Production company NEW LiCHT says the film is uniquely placed to reinvigorate discussions about Scottish independence.
They said: “In a world where the media is often used to spread mistruths and fear, this film gives us the chance to shed light and share hope.
“We believe there has never been a more important time to revisit the referendum of 2014; to witness again this energised, peaceful campaign for change and learn any lessons we can.
“We invite you to be a part of this new chapter in Scotland’s story.
“To bring an authentic experience of the 2014 referendum to local, national and international audiences.”
National columnist Lesley Riddoch has put her support behind the campaign, calling it a “brilliant, insightful, gutsy film about 2014.”
A trailer for the film is available to watch on the Kickstarter page.
