Cammy Devlin 'gutted' over Hearts red card ban as star admits he's 'shattered' amid testing run

Cammy Devlin was too disappointed in himself to listen to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s touchline advice after his red card against Rangers.

The Hearts midfielder was sent off after a reckless challenge on Rabbi Matondo right in front of the technical area. Amidst the chaos, the TV cameras captured the Ibrox boss having a word with Devlin, as the challenge cost Hearts in as they collapsed to a 4-0 defeat at Tynecastle.

Van Bronckhorst later used his post match interview that his touchline talk with Devlin was to offer advice rather than tell off the player as he revealed he was a fan of the Hearts battler. Devlin, who is set to miss tomorrow’s Premiership clash against Kilmarnock, has acknowledged those positive comments from the World Cup Finalist. He said: "He (Van Bronckhorst) just said I don’t need to do that in my game. At the time I was just so heated and disappointed that I wasn’t fully listening.

"I try not to look into things, especially when I’ve done something which has impacted my team. I’ve been told he said I was a good player which obviously is great coming from someone like him.

"But I’ve let down my team on Saturday afternoon and I’m very disappointed.

"I really appreciate [Van Bronckhorst's message] but it came from a negative action by me so it’s something I’ve got to learn from and move on quickly because I miss Sunday and we’ve got another game next weekend."

Devlin admits he is gutted to be missing crucial Premiership clashes says he is over the red card and is keen to show he move on.

He added: "I’m shattered at the moment," Devlin said. "It’s something in football I’ve never had to go through, but you’ve got to get over it as quickly as you can and hopefully I showed when I got out there that I’m over it now and past it. I’m missing football games so I’m gutted.”
