Open Champion Cameron Smith failed to deny that he was signing for the LIV Golf when asked directly at a press conference, adding to the mounting speculation he has.
The Australian said any news about his future would come from him and not fellow countryman Cam Percy, who claimed that Smith is moving to the rebel series. After winning his the Open Championship last month Smith had refused to talk about his link with the LIV Golf and once again avoided confirming his participation in the series.
Speaking ahead of the FedEx Cup play-off tournament starting tomorrow he said: "My goal is to win the FedExCup play-offs, that's what I'm here for.
"If there's something I need to say regarding the PGA Tour of LIV it will come from Cameron Smith not Cameron Percy. I'm a man of my word and whenever you guys (the press) need to know anything it will be said by me."
Smith was the asked directly about reports that he has already signed for the LIV Golf series, he replied: "I have no comment to that. I'm here to play the FedExCup Playoffs, that has been my focus the last week and a half."
Percy has confirmed that Smith and fellow Australian Marc Leishman have joined the contentious series. The PGA golfer told RSN Radio : "Unfortunately, yeah, they're gone. The more and more you look into it, some people don't care, some people have got a conscience and do care.
"They're not the nicest people in the world. Do you just look past that and go, "oh well, I'm rich. I don't really care". It's a tough one, it really is."
Smith, 28, has six PGA Tour wins to his name including the Players Championship and his value rocketed after clinching the Claret Jug at the 150th Open last month, finishing a shot ahead of American Cameron Young.
It is believed the Smith's switch the LIV Golf series will come after this month's FedEx Cup play-off starting with the St Jude Invitational on Thursday.
LIV CEO Greg Norman has said that some player announcements will be made before the FedEx Cup and that they had reached a maximum of 27of the world’s top 150 for the Saudi-backed event.
He added: "We're still getting calls from agents of top-40 players in the world wanting to join LIV but it's too late now. What it tells me though, is what we're doing is very appealing to the world's best players."
