Cameron Norrie bounces back from Argentina Open final loss for easy Rio win

Cameron Norrie bounced back from defeat in the Argentina Open final on Sunday with a straight-sets victory over Juan Manuel Cerundolo at the Rio Open.

Norrie had lost out on the title in neighbouring Argentina after defeat to Carlos Alcaraz but hopes of a fifth career ATP title were boosted by a 7-5, 6-1 win over Argentinian Cerundolo on Tuesday night.

The British No1 had an early wobble to fall behind 5-3 in the opening set but then cruised to the victory by winning 10 of the next 11 games to wrap up the win.

Norrie now takes on another South American in Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro in the last 16.

There was less good news for British No2 Dan Evans as he hobbled out of his first-round match against Emil Ruusvuori at the Qatar Open.

Evans twisted his right ankle early in the match, was immediately broken and then needed a medical timeout.

He recovered to force his way back into the contest before suffering a 7-5, 6-4 loss.
