Cameron Diaz has shared the struggles she faced when watching pal Drew Barrymore have issues with alcohol.
The pair, who starred alongside each other in Charlie's Angels, and Cameron, 50, has revealed she gave Drew, 48, the "support she needed" during the difficult times.
The duo have been best pals since the '90s and Cameron has detailed her thoughts following Drew's spiral into depression and drinking after her divorce from Will Kopelman in 2016. The pair had been married for four years.
Friends of the TV talk show host staged a "quasi-intervention" in a bid to help the star overcome her troubles and There's Something About Mary star Cameron has revealed it was important for those close to her to stick by her.
Speaking to the LA Times in a profile of her friend, Cameron said: "I knew that if we all stuck with her and gave her the support she needed, she would find her way.
"I have absolute faith in her. You can't even comprehend how hard it was to be her as a child, and then she shot out the other end with the ability to save herself."
Drew has been open in the past about her struggles with alcohol and substance abuse as a youngster after finding fame as a child through roles on hit productions such as ET.
She previously revealed she tried her first drink at the age of nine, tried marijuana at 10 and took cocaine at 12.
But in December 2021, Drew confirmed she had been sober for two and a half years. Previously explaining how she drank to number the pain of her divorce, the actress said alcohol was "a constant" during the "excruciating" break-up.
Talking to PEOPLE in December 2022, she said: "It just took me down. It was just trying to … feel good — and alcohol totally did that for me."
And her issues were so severe at the time, she even says it led to her therapist quitting on her, simply saying he couldn't do it anymore.
She revealed she told him: "I get it. … You see I’m not getting better. And I hope, one day, that I can earn your trust back."
