Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell hopes Saturday’s 6-0 cup win over Wishaw can provide a major boost for their West of Scotland Premier League campaign.
Camby cruised into the third round of the South Challenge Cup with a Grant Brennan double added to by strikes from Alan Reid, Finlay Anderson, Harry Kent and Scott Anson.
And that has now set up a third-round clash at home to Newton Stewart on Saturday, November 19.
Ahead of a visit by Petershill this Saturday, Campbell says it’s important to take that form forward.
He said: “We played very well. We asked the guys to play with a real bit of tempo and be a bit more direct, going into the last third, and they did.
“We were really pleased and got some real positives out of it.
“We got a young lad, Grant Brennan signed, that was his first game and in the first half he got a couple of goals, which was great.
“We’re trying to give big Scott Anson a wee bit of support up front, and he’s got a bit of movement about him.
“Reidy got a goal, big Anson got a goal, we made some changes by putting Finlay and Harry on and both of them scored, so all it all it was a good wee day.
“Overall I’m really pleased with the day.
“It gives everyone that wee lift with a couple of goals.
“You’re trying your best to improve every week, play your part where you can, and it would be great if we could get a wee run in the cup.”
Petershill are rock bottom of the division, giving Camby a chance to extend their two-point lead over them, and Campbell said: “The Premier League is a tough division for us, so it has given us a wee lift, a wee bit of positivity, going into the Petershill game at home on Saturday, and we’ll try to embrace that.
“We just need to take it a game at a time.
“They’ve struggled in the last couple of games as well, but we’re all in and around that area where you need to make sure you turn up on the day and get the result.”
Kick-off at Somervell Park on Saturday is 2pm.
