A Camarillo, California, resident experienced a harrowing night as the Mountain Fire encroached upon his home. Steven Snyder, who recently moved into his home in February, found himself surrounded by flames as the fire raged on Wednesday night.
Despite being unable to evacuate due to blocked roads and neighboring homes ablaze, Snyder and his family found solace in the fireproofing measures they had taken. Their home was equipped with fireproof windows and a fireproof roof, along with a 100-foot radius of clear space around the property.
With power lost on Wednesday afternoon, Snyder, along with his wife, daughter, and 7-week-old granddaughter, hunkered down in their fortified home. They had ample supplies of water and food to sustain them through the night.
As the fire approached, Snyder described the scene outside as resembling 'little campfires sparking up,' with palm trees ablaze and the wind carrying embers over the hill. Despite the chaos, Snyder remained confident in the protective measures they had in place.
Throughout the night, fire personnel gathered in the area, some even utilizing water from Snyder's property to combat the flames. When morning broke, Snyder captured the aftermath on video, revealing a charred mountainside with some homes spared while others lay in ruins.
While the devastation of the Mountain Fire was evident, Snyder's story stands as a testament to the importance of fireproofing and preparedness in the face of natural disasters.
