It's looking set to be a big day for Calvin Ramsay who is in line for his full Liverpool debut - just hours after earning his first Scotland call-up.
Ramsay was named in Steve Clarke's 23-player squad to face Turkey next week and it comes as just desserts for his progress since swapping Aberdeen for Anfield. After an injury-hit start, he has recovered to hit the ground running and was handed his debut off the bench against Napoli following rave reviews from Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp 's team take on Derby in the EFL Cup tonight, a competition where the German loves to rotate his ranks and it's already been confirmed he'll do the same at Anfield as his team kick off their defence of the trophy. Klopp handed press conference duties over to his right-hand man Pep Lijnders who revealed it will be a "young" team that take on Derby.
He said: "If you work for Liverpool, you have to trust young players because the generations before made this club. Of course we're going to see them because it would be idiotic not to do.
"We have to trust the young talent. They never let us down. We are going to see Scousers hopefully. Imagine a Scouser scoring in front of the Kop."
And while Lijnders' words hint more at minutes for local boys like Curtis Jones, it means a first start for Ramsay is all-but certain with usual starter Trent Alexander-Arnold in line for a rest. Young Scot Ben Doak has mightily impressed in the UEFA Youth League but at just 16, this one may come just a shade too early for the former Celtic kid who still plays for the Reds' Under-18s at domestic level.
On Ramsay's call-up, Clarke said: "I want to have a look at Calvin. I know what he did at Aberdeen, he got a fantastic move to Liverpool and he made his debut at Anfield in the Champions League, which is not a bad start.
"He had an interrupted start to his Liverpool career because they found an injury but they've treated it well and he's had time to come through it. I'm missing a couple of players in that position anyway, so it's a chance to get Calvin in and have a look."
