Calvin Ramsay could face Rangers after Liverpool squad announcement sets up Scottish football return

Liverpool starlet and former Aberdeen prodigy Calvin Ramsay could be set for a return to Scottish football in the coming weeks after Reds boss Jurgen Klopp named the youngster in his 25-man squad for the Champions League.

Ramsay, 19, joined Liverpool over the summer after heavily impressing in the Granite City for Jim Goodwin's side. The Dons received a club-record fee for his services despite only making his debut in March 2021 and appearing just 39 times for the first-team.

The youngster is quite evidently behind Trent Alexander-Arnold in the first-team picture this year, whist Joe Gomez can also fill in if the homegrown Scouse star is to miss out on a starting spot in the coming weeks. But with Ramsay having excelled in the Scottish Premiership for the Dons prior to his move to Merseyside, his knowledge and nous in the top-flight of Scotland could see him become a serious option for Klopp to start either at Anfield or Ibrox.

With Rangers set to enter the fray in Europe's elite club competition for the first time in twelve years, fans will be expectant of a committed performance that will put them on the continental map. But Ramsay's inclusion could be for a potential inclusion at a rocking atmosphere which he is already used to.

Dons boss Jim Goodwin praised Ramsay's development prior to his move in the summer, labelling Ramsay as one of the best up and coming talents in the world. “Prior to January, Calvin was probably one of the best young full-backs in the world to be perfectly honest. That is not an over-exaggeration," Goodwin said earlier this summer.

“His stats, his data in terms of his attacking numbers, putting crosses in the box were incredible. He had a little dip in form. Whether that was because his head was turned in January with whether he was moving or not moving."
