Calvin Harris shares 'primal diet' which sees him chow down on bone marrow

Calvin Harris says he has been re-energised by a "primal diet" that sees him scoffing bone marrow, liver and other unconventional animal bits.

The 38-year-old DJ says the new eating habits have given him back his edge after spending time on a "fruitarian raw vegan" juice diet.

He told Zane Lowe on his Apple Music Radio show: "You know, I lost the **** you juice for a couple years. I did lose it.

"I don't know how I got it back, I think it was when I started eating bone marrow again and liver.

"And it just all came rushing back as soon as I ate those bones and got those amazing fats in my body."

Laughing, he added: "And then I felt energised enough through my primal diet."

Harris says he has even encouraged some of the collaborators on his new album to join in with his eccentric eating - leading Lowe to brand his current state as "apex predator Calvin Harris".

The Dumfries-born producer continued: "With this I'm putting artists in different places and moving it around. So much liver got consumed to get to this point.

"I was on more of a fruitarian raw vegan thing. I came out of that and went full carnivore, like the Texan, 'why eat vegetables when you can have testicles' kind of ******* thing, y'know, and this is the product of that.

"I got Charlie Puth taking crushed-up ants from China to get him hype and he sounded like [Doobie Brothers singer] Michael McDonald on this record. This is what's going on.

"I harnessed the power of the ants and he sounded exactly like Michael McDonald in 1982.

"My new attitude is: 'Let's have a laugh'."

Harris teamed up with Dua Lipa and Young Thug for his new song 'Potion', which was released this week.

It is the lead single from his upcoming album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2, which is expected to be released in the summer.

Harris has just entertained crowds in Coventry as a headliner at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend - and has reportedly proposed to BBC DJ girlfriend Vick Hope.

He said of working with Dua Lipa on the new single: "When I want to work with someone it's because I think they have a unique voice or something that sort of speaks to me and I think, 'Oh, I could do something with this or something really good could come out of it' and she's one of those people.

"It's a mixture between that and just someone that I get on with, that I know I'm going to have a nice time in the studio with.

"I want to have a good time, I don't want to have any stressful, awkward experiences with people and I want to work with people that give me joy and pleasure in the hope that I can give that back to them as well and we can just have a great time, you know?"
