SCOTTISH musician Calvin Harris has broken the record for the biggest crowd at a DJ set after performing for an estimated 1.6 million people in Brazil.
The Guinness World Records (GWR) recognised the Dumfries-born Harris after more than 1.6m fans attended his gig in Sao Paulo in February.
Sharing a picture of himself with the certificate, the 42-year-old said the show was a “truly insane day”.
It had been reported his headline appearance, which saw him play to the crowd in a Brazilian top with the name Calvinho on the back, had forced the closure of the Rua da Consolacao.
His set included some of his most famous chart-topping hits, including “One Kiss”, “This Is What You Came For”, and “We Found Love”.
Writing on Instagram Harris shared his record-breaking certificate writing: “WOW I now have the world record for ‘largest attendance for a DJ set by a single artist’ only in Brazil!!!
“This was a truly insane day.”
It comes after Harris hit another historic Brazilian milestone after he became the first-ever electronic music artist to close out the primary Palco Mundo stage at Rock in Rio.
He has also previously been recognised by the GWR after he was presented with an award for the most top 10 hits on the UK singles chart from one album for 18 months back in 2014, where he scooped nine top 10 hits from the album.
The GWR has also previously listed Harris as the highest-paid DJ in one year following his earnings between June 2015 and 2016 where he earned an earned an estimated £51m.
GWR also noted that the pop star Madonna’s free Celebration Tour concert at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro in May 2024 also drew more than 1.6m people.
