Calvin Bassey gushes over Rangers reunion as he predicts 'special night' at Ibrox with Ajax

Former Rangers defender Calvin Bassey is looking forward to a 'special' Ibrox reunion.

The Ajax stopper will return to Govan in November in the closing clash of the Champions League group stage campaign. The defender played all 90 minutes as the Dutch side thrashed Rangers 4-0 on Wednesday. He had previously admitted he was looking forward to seeing some familiar faces as the Ibrox outfit visited Amsterdam, but insists once the whistle blew there would be no favours. And he certainly seemed to stick to his word.

Bassey made the move to Amsterdam in a deal worth £20million in the summer, but has remained close with some of his ex-colleagues, even visiting them in Eindhoven ahead of last month’s play-off win over PSV. But the 22-year-old has since admitted that he will let his former Rangers pals recover from their hiding in Holland before reaching out to organise a catch up.

Wednesday was the first Champions League outing for the defender. And despite the opponents perhaps providing a little awkwardness, Bassey insists it was an incredible evening. The stopped took to social media to share his gratitude.

On Instagram, the stopper's post read: "God is Great. Unbelievable feeling to make my @championsleague debut. The boys were amazing. Was so good to see so many familiar faces last night… gonna be special to be back at Ibrox in November. We keep working."
