Calvin Bassey's megabucks move to Ajax hasn't dampened the spirit of any Rangers fans as they continue to talk up their Premiership title chances.
A deal which will see the Ibrox club rake in a fee in excess of £20million has only served to add to fuel to the Light Blues that a tide is turning as the battle for Old Firm supremacy prepares to recommence. John Bruce, emailed: "Rangers have spent wisely in this transfer window to strengthen their squad. Losing a fantastic talent like European finalist Bassey would be a sickener, but receiving £20-£25 million for him will soften the blow. The fans would certainly be happy if we could use some of that money for another quality replacement or two. With our new players, and game-levelling VAR just a few months away, the new season can't come quickly enough."
Joe Sneddon, emailed: "You can smell the fear coming down London Road and it's a fear that comes from having a level playing field. No Celtic fan wants to talk about Europe and I wonder why that is? The Sydney Super Cup in Australia is the only trophy that is a priority." Bill Park, Bathgate, said: "Like most football managers, Giovanni Van Bronckhorst is obviously building his own team. The signings to date look exciting, with a mixture of youth and experience. The other big plus point is that there is mobility and speed which is essential for a top team. The promise is there, the fans will hope it comes to fruition."
Jamie McLaren, Maryhill, said: "As a Rangers fan I'm really pleased so far with our transfer business. We've beefed up our first team with seasoned players in Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence and youthful exuberance in Rabbi Matondo and Malik Tillman. We've also added four or five gems to our exciting array of young talent in the academy and are spending next to nothing with Ianis Hagi and Alfredo Morelos to come back. We're looking strong from top to bottom and I think there's still more to come."
George Wilson, West Sussex, said: "Hotline regular Gordon Ashley told us recently Rangers would get a maximum of £8 million for Calvin Bassey so if he knows all that goes on at Rangers then surely he also knows all that goes on at Celtic. Ashley just embarrasses himself constantly and has done it again spectacularly with more of his negative nonsense about Rangers. He must be delighted with the home draw against the mighty Blackburn Rovers."
Patrick Mc Fadden, Donegal, said: "Mr Wilson claims to have been in the Ibrox trophy room and seen all the silverware, could he explain to everyone what half a trophy looks like, the one they shared with Dumbarton, did they get the top half? The bottom half or was it split down the middle? Thank you Hotline and a wonderful new season to everyone."
Jamie Thompson, Clydebank, said: "Celtic fans are worried as you can tell when they bombard the Hotline with the latest Poundland jibe about Rangers. The last I heard Celtic were upgrading Parkhead with a nice new extension for all these players they bought and keep buying. They need to do their talking on the pitch."
Seamie Gallgher, Govan, said: "I would just like to give any confused or jealous people a reality check. Since the millennium, Celtic have won 36 trophies; That includes 16 titles, five trebles, five doubles, One Invincible treble and one quadruple treble. What an era it has been for my club and it's still ongoing."
John Scott, Grassmoor, said: There's no doubt VAR would have the ability to right a few wrongs. But come on, the time some decisions take. That's two games in the women's Euros I've been able to go make a cup of tea and return to my seat in time to catch the resumption of play. My kettle won't last a month when VAR is introduced to the Scottish game. Mind you all those Rangers and Celtic referees bickering over decisions that affect their favourites will give me ample time to make a bacon roll or heat up a pie to enjoy with all that tea."
