Rangers star Calvin Bassey has landed in Amsterdam as he gets set to put the finishing touches on his £19m plus add-ons deal with Ajax, according to a report.
The 22-year-old is poised to pen a four-year deal with the Eredivisie champions with an option for a further year and will become the third most expensive arrival in Dutch football history. Bassey has enjoyed a stratospheric rise at Ibrox and his all-action displays were vital en route to Rangers' run to the Europa League Final. And now the Champions League regulars have moved quickly to replace Lisandro Martinez after his £46m move to Manchester United.
Ajax jumped ahead of other interested suitors including Brighton and will now show Bassey around the Johan Cruyff Arena before the Nigeria international signs his contract. Fabrizio Romano wrote: "Calvin Bassey, landed in Amsterdam right now together with his agents in order to undergo medical tests and sign contract as new Ajax player. Done deal
"Contract will be valid until June 2026 with an option for further season. Here we go confirmed."
Rangers boss Gio Van Bronckhors t is already on the hunt for a replacement for his star man who can play both in central defence and at left back.
He said: "The squad is well at the moment. We changed the players who left and got new players in but with Calvin maybe going as well, we have to look for another player to add to the squad. "We have our list ready. So, once the deal is done we can work on another player coming in."
