A CALMAC ferry has been tasked with helping the HM Coastguard respond to a mayday call.
MV Loch Buie, which operates the service between Iona and Fionnphort, is currently assisting HM Coastguard of Mull.
Vessel tracking site Marine Traffic shows that the ferry is heading south of Mull in the direction of Colonsay.
The National has been told the Coastguard is co-ordinating the response to a report made about 8.15am on December 13 of a fishing vessel in difficulty.
A search and rescue helicopter has been sent as well as RNLI lifeboats from Oban and Islay.
In a post on Twitter/X, CalMac said: “Due to the vessel assisting the Coastguard, this service has been suspended until further notice.
“An update will be provided as soon as more information becomes available.”
