Callum Wilson outlines what he needs to do to make England's World Cup squad

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson say it's a goal of his to represent England at the World Cup in Qatar this winter. The 30-year-old has been capped by England four times and has never been selected in a Three Lions squad for a major tournament.

Wilson, who hasn't been capped by England since October 2019, will be battling for a place in the 26-man squad against the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Tammy Abraham and Ollie Watkins. With the Qatar World Cup taking place mid-season, lots of players will be looking to impress Gareth Southgate in the early stages of the Premier League campaign.

Wilson got his season off to the perfect start by scoring in Newcastle's opening day win over Nottingham Forest. However, even with the World Cup on the horizon, Wilson says he's not putting extra pressure on himself to score more goals.

"I wouldn't say I'm putting extra pressure (on myself), but it's a goal and ambition of mine to represent my country as I did before," Wilson told Sky Sports.

"I loved every minute of it. The only thing that's going to get me there is focusing on Newcastle week in, week out and concentrating on my football and ultimately performing. If the England manager decides that he'd like to take a number nine who fits my profile, then so be it."
