Callum McGregor had told the Georgian players Scotland will play the chaos-riddled Euro 2024 AWAY form Hampden if that's what it takes to get the game on.
The Celtic captain's goal put Steve Clarke's team ahead in Mount Florida before chaos literally rained down on the park, as delay after delay put this game into doubt – just eight minutes into the match. But at 9:15pm, some 90 minutes after the game had originally kicked off, the ball was set to roll again from the sixth minute, when the midfielder had originally scored. But Georgia then refused to come out the tunnel as a farce descended.
Officials monitored the park constantly as heroic Hampden ground staff looked to clear the worst of the rain off the turf, but the Georgia players weren't happy. According to Viaplay, they remonstrated over why this one was going ahead, Scott McTominay voicing his annoyance before McGregor chipped in. Reporter Connie McLaughlin said: "The Georgia players are not happy, the bounce of the ball, they wanted this game to be played tomorrow.
"Then Callum McGregor piped in and said well in actual fact, if you want the game played at all, then realistically we are happy to come to Georgia. Play there. That's how confident they are. From the Scotland team perspective, they are desperate to get this one on."
The game eventually restarted at 9:30pm. It's understood Georgia were desperate to get the game called off and constantly whined and moaned to UEFA officials. The Georgian FA even intervened but to no avail. Finally, their players emerged – to a chorus of boos.
