Callum Davidson sympathises with St Johnstone supporters over Scottish Cup ticket decision

Callum Davidson says he sympathises with St Johnstone supporters following the ticket announcement for this month’s Scottish Cup game against Rangers.

The Perth club announced on Friday that the Glasgow visitors will be getting three stands at McDiarmid Park, with home fans allocated only the Main Stand.

It was revealed that ticket prices for the fourth round tie will be £30 for adults and £20 concessions.

Saints, in a statement on Friday, noted talks had been held with “some of our supporter groups” and apologised for the inconvenience the ticket arrangements for the game will cause.

“For me, I want to win the game,” Davidson said.

“As a player I used to love it when you had both stands full of St Johnstone fans.

“I sympathise with supporters. For me, it’s not great in that way.

“I want the best chance for us to get through in the cup, for me that would be two stands of St Johnstone fans.

“So yeah, I’m a little bit frustrated.”

Supporters’ group Fair City Unity’s section was vacant in the first half of Monday’s Dundee United fixture, leaving only a banner which read: Against Modern Football. They were back in their usual section for the second half.

“We have to work with the supporters,” Perth manager Davidson added. “It’s a really hard one.

“The supporters were there when we needed them last season.”

Saints scuppered the chance to pull further away from their second-from-bottom Tayside rivals, with Tony Watt’s winner nine minutes from time proving the difference.

Davidson said: “First half I thought we were miles off it in terms of keeping the ball.

“Dundee United had most of the game without really causing us many problems.

“I went into half-time thinking ‘we can’t be that bad on the ball again’ and it’s 0-0.

“We got better in the second half but conceded a sloppy goal.

“I’m more disappointed to lose that game than the Hearts one.

“A draw would probably have been a fair result because I don’t think Dundee United did enough to win the game either. It was a game that could have given us a wee safety net.

“Worst case scenario we should have got a point and not let Dundee United get any closer to us.

“It was probably the worst performance of the season for me.”

Davidson confirmed Andy Considine had missed out due to illness, while Adam Montgomery and Melker Hallberg had hamstring issues.

On Montgomery, Davidson said that the loan latest is “ongoing” and added: “There will be players I’ll be looking at, not just Adam. There might be one or two going out as well.”
