Callum Davidson hails St Johnstone fans' Easter Road backing

Callum Davidson has hailed St Johnstone’s sell-out support and wants to repay them with a memorable Friday night under the lights.

Perth fans were quick to snap up opponents Hibs’ £10 ticket offer for this evening’s Scottish Premiership fixture at Easter Road and more than 1000 will be perched in the away end.

Such was the popularity of the deal, more away tickets were requested by Saints during the week but this was rejected by the capital outfit.

Regardless, Davidson is looking forward to a bouncing atmosphere and will have his players fired up to give travelling supporters something to cheer about.

“We look forward to a game whenever it’s played, but a Friday night match in Edinburgh will be great,” Davidson explained earlier this week.

“We’ll hopefully be bringing a lot of fans through so it should be a good atmosphere. It’s fantastic that Hibs have cut ticket prices. These are tough times.”

Davidson has appreciated the vocal backing both at home and away matches, adding: “We missed having some of our younger fans on Saturday at Livingston and it will be great to have a big support behind us. There have been a few late goals at Easter Road down the years – hopefully if there’s another one it will be for us!”

Those at the stadium tonight will witness a slice of history with the fixture selected as the first ever Scottish Premiership match to have the use of VAR (Video Assistant Referee).

“Obviously the introduction of VAR adds a bit of interest as well,” Davidson continued.

“We’re all just hoping referees come to the right decisions. There will always be differences of opinion but we just want the big ones to be right.”

Saints are desperate to halt a run of three straight defeats and bounce back from last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Livingston.

Last season, the Perth side went on a miserable run in the lead-up to Christmas and that must be avoided this term.

Davidson said: “We want to bounce back after a disappointing result last weekend.

“We knew the first goal would be so important in the Livingston game and that turned out to be the case.

“We didn’t do enough after we went 1-0 down until the last 10 or 15 minutes, which was disappointing.

“But it wasn’t all negative. We’ll move on from it and be ready to go for the win at Easter Road.”
