Demands mount for Dermot Kennedy to apologise after his use of a controversial term during a recent interview.
Dermot came under fire after discussing the origin of the word 'k******' in an interview with Canadian music channel 'Much'. Dermot mentioned that the term is often used to describe a state of tiredness, but also highlighted its problematic undertones.
He told the host: "If I was tired, I would say I'm 'knackered.' Similarly, if you call someone a ''k******' it's really bad- to the best of my knowledge it describes a horse in the yard that's dying."
Many people have hit out at Dermot's comments publicly and described them as offensive. The live interview has subsequently been deleted online.
Human rights activist Rose Marie Maughan said on Twitter: "He must now do the right thing and apologise to us, and in the future use his platform as an ally to us - calling for the end of the last accepted racism in Ireland."

Pavee Point defines the term as deeply offensive due to its connotations towards the Travelling community. However, the advocacy group acknowledges that the word's origins may have been different.
Dermot is set to return to Ireland to perform two gigs in Marlay Park this weekend.
