Calls for York residents to have say over future of Andrew’s links to city

People across the UK should have a say in whether places in their area can take on the names of dukes and duchesses, ministers have heard.

Labour MP Rachael Maskell (York Central) called for a debate into how aristocratic titles which “take their name from a geographical location” are assigned, having previously said that Andrew’s title as Duke of York is “untenable”.

The Queen stripped Andrew of his honorary military roles and royal patronages less than a week ago.
