Kimberly Cheatle, a seasoned Secret Service veteran with nearly three decades of experience, has held various roles within the agency, including serving on the vice presidential details of both Joe Biden and Mike Pence.
In 2021, Cheatle departed from her position as the Assistant Director of the Office of Protective Operations, a role she occupied during the tumultuous events of January 6, 2021, when the Secret Service was tasked with safeguarding then-Vice President Mike Pence from rioters.
Recently, calls for Cheatle's resignation have emerged from several Republican lawmakers, with House Speaker Mike Johnson expressing his lack of confidence in her leadership abilities. Johnson stated, 'I don’t understand her decision-making process, and I don’t think she’s fit to lead at this critical time.'
Similarly, Rep. Brendan Boyle, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, has also called for Cheatle to step down, citing a lack of faith in the current Secret Service leadership. Boyle remarked, 'I’m very sorry to reach this conclusion: I have no confidence in the leadership of the United States Secret Service. I hereby call on Kimberly Cheatle to resign.'
