Residents along a busy stretch of the A52 in Radcliffe-on-Trent have called for a temporary road crossing to be made permanent. People living along the road, also known as Gratham Road, say it will improve safety for children who regularly "chance it" in crossing.
The temporary pelican crossing outside Woodside Store was introduced due to ongoing roadworks at its Bingham Road junction. But National Highways, which is carrying out the works, said it had no plans to install one permanently.
This comes despite the crossing's praise from residents, who are otherwise frustrated by the ongoing works. Michelle Ison, who lives on the A52, described it as a "god-send".

"It means I can get out in my car a lot easier," she told Nottinghamshire Live. John Mistry, who owns Woodside Store, said the crossing would most importantly improve the safety of the road for children.
He said many children would "risk it" trying to cross the road before, due to the nearest crossings being a considerable distance from the shop. "I would be for the safety of children more than anything," he said.
"It's not nice to risk your life like that for nothing, it's scary for parents." A local woman, who wished to remain anonymous, added: "I've seen kids taking lives into their own hands crossing to the shops."
National Highways senior project manager, Nick Medlicott, said: “Safety is our priority and as part of our vital upgrade work at Bingham Road junction, we’re installing new crossing facilities for pedestrians and cyclists. This means that once the work is complete, it will make it much safer and easier for people to cross this busy junction.
"It will also provide motorists with smoother journeys and alleviate congestion at a well-known bottleneck on the A52.”
