Callout for face painters as Stoneybatter Festival takes place this June

The organisers behind Stoneybatter Festival are seeking face painters as they get ready for a brand new year of celebrations.

The yearly festival will take place from June 16 to June 18 and will feature a range of stalls, activities and competitions in the heart of the local community. The project is supported by Dublin City Council and has new ideas in the pipeline for its 2023 run, including a pop up cinema and street theatre performances.

The event is organised by local community group Stoneybatter Pride of Place. Its chairperson Louise Keegan said the event is in need of face painters due to high demand for the activity last year.

She said: "This year we’re doing a massive callout for face painters. We had one girl who ended up doing five hours last year because she didn’t have the heart to turn kids away."

Louise added: "I'd love to have a rota system to make sure we have lots of them. The running joke as we plan for the festival is to get any face painters with a pulse involved."

Popular events from last year's festival, including the Woofstock Dog Competition and the Batter Bake Off, are set to make a welcome return. Pauline McLynn, the actress behind Mrs Doyle in Father Ted, judged the baking competition in 2019 and awarded winners some highly coveted tea cosies.

The event will attract large crowds, with traffic usually sealed off to accommodate the event. There will also be plenty of delectable food on offer, including a Venezuelan food stall and a Ukrainian barbecue.

Stoneybatter Festival will also honour former members of the Pride of Place committee, which works tirelessly to benefit the local area, with a memorial wishing tree. Louise said these plans are still being fleshed out but it is hoped the tree will make an appearance at the festival.

All stalls at the festival must have a local link to Stoneybatter. People interested in running a stall or volunteering at the festival can register their interest via Instagram.
