Helen George has revealed that she and her Call The Midwife co-stars are 'unsure' of their long term future on the BBC drama, after she left fans concerned with a hint that character Trixie Franklin's wedding might not run smoothly.
Helen, has been playing Trixie in Call The Midwife since 2015, quickly establishing herself as firm favourite amongst fans. As Helen gave birth to her baby daughter, Trixie made a scripted exit from the show, with her absence from Nonnatus House being explained by her going to stay with a relative abroad.
Much to the delight of viewers, Trixie made a long awaited return to Call The Midwife for its Christmas special, being proposed to by love interest Matthew in heart-warming scenes tight near the end of the episode. After some time away from Poplar, the midwife has been at the hearty of a lot of drama in series 12, including being 'locked down' in hospital during an e-coli outbreak in the maternity ward; finding Matthew's father dead in the bathroom and, most recently, supporting a young mother who'd been cast aside by her own family after falling pregnant.
There are now just a few episodes left of Call The Midwife's new series and while definitely back for the next one, Helen says anything further than that is still to be confirmed, telling Radio Times: "!We know nothing. We'll wait and see but we've got one more season which is amazing."
Helen's uncertainty over the Call The Midwife cast's future, comes as she left fans concerned for Trixie and Matthew's upcoming nuptials, saying: "I mean it's never completely smooth sailing. There's always got to be a bit of jeopardy."
Also doing little to quash fans' concerns, Ollie Rix, who plays Matthew, commented: "There wouldn't be any drama if it was smooth sailing so buckle up."
Earlier on this series, the nun of Nonnatus House were dealt a blow when the health board declared it could be shut down as and when the board 'deems it appropriate.'
