Call for certain takeaway Beeston town centre would 'benefit' from

A former hair salon in Beeston could become a takeaway under plans submitted to Broxtowe Borough Council to change the use of the building. The property, in High Road, was previously Pure Kutz.

It was a family-run hairdressers which closed in December last year due ill health of one of the owners. The property is currently empty.

But plans have recently emerged seeking to change the use of the building and run a hot food takeaway. Though at this stage it's unclear on the type of food that's expected to be served.

Shoppers in Beeston have been speaking about the type of takeaway they'd like to see. Beeston residents Georgina Ward and Edward Ward said they would like to see a Chinese. Ms Ward, 41, said: “We’d benefit from that, we could have a Chinese.”

Mr Ward, 59, added: “We do want that - there’s too many cafes. There’s fish and chip shops and all that here - it would be nice to have a Chinese.” Ashley Jones, 37, who often shops in Beeston, spoke of what he would like to see in Beeston.

Mr Jones said: “I think a Caribbean place would do well, I would really like that. Or even maybe some type of authentic Asian food would be good, too. There’s a lot (of takeaways) around here already.”

James Storer, who has lived in Beeston for the past three years, said the space should be used for something else. He said: “It's tough - there’s already a lot of takeaways. There’s a Chinese 300 yards away. Just down there is a sit in Korea House. It’s a lovely space, what I'd like is a book shop or a guitar shop. I think we already have enough takeaways.”

New eateries have been popping up in the town recently, including Big Mike’s Artisan Cheesecakes in High Road and Ottimo, a new Italian restaurant that's one of the biggest restaurants in the town, with 150 seats.
