California police K-9 was helping SWAT arrest a barricaded suspect. Then the wanted man allegedly bit off part of the dog’s ear

In a bizarre role reversal that turned standard law enforcement tactics on their head, a Southern California police dog is recovering after an armed suspect allegedly bit off part of the animal’s ear during a high-stakes SWAT standoff. The incident happened in the Wilmington neighborhood of Los Angeles, where officers were trying to apprehend a wanted felon.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the injured four-legged officer, a Dutch Shepherd named Wouter, serves alongside Officer Adam Cook with the Redondo Beach Police Department. Wouter was deployed to help resolve a volatile situation after the male suspect barricaded himself inside a residence and repeatedly refused commands to surrender to the surrounding SWAT team.
