California Highway Patrol officers initiated the dismantling of barricades outside the UCLA encampment in the early hours of Thursday morning, resulting in the detainment of pro-Palestinian protesters on the premises. The officers, hailing from CHP's special operations unit, were captured in video footage donning police riot gear, complete with helmets, gas masks, zip ties, and batons, as they made their way into the encampment. The scene was accompanied by the sound of flashbangs and cries emanating from behind the barricades.
During the operation, some protesters were observed kneeling on the ground with their arms restrained with zip ties as officers proceeded with the detainment process. Additional protesters were escorted out of the encampment as the operation unfolded. Reportedly, the detained individuals, identified as students, were being escorted to nearby buses situated on the UCLA campus.
