Caleb Williams sounds off on Bears’ trade for Keenan Allen

The Chicago Bears were out in full force at Caleb Williams’ pro day at USC on Wednesday, where they were one of 31 teams who got a chance to watch Williams throw.

Chicago had as many as nine representatives in Los Angeles, including general manager Ryan Poles, assistant GM Ian Cunningham, head coach Matt Eberflus, offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and quarterbacks coach Kerry Joseph.

But there was also a surprise guest at Williams’ pro day: new Bears wide receiver Keenan Allen, who hung around the large contingent of Chicago representatives.

The Bears acquired Williams in a trade from the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for a fourth-round selection. And if you ask Williams, Chicago got a steal.

“That was great,” Williams said of Allen in attendance, via NFL Network. “I’ve known Keenan for a little bit now, hung out. He was at the Chargers at the time, obviously, and now he’s at the Bears for a fourth-round pick, which is crazy.”

Allen, 31, has had at least 100 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards in five of the last seven seasons. Last season, Allen was sixth in the NFL with 108 receptions — and he did that in just 13 games — for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns.

“He had his best year last year,” Williams said about Allen. “He’s a beast. Good guy. Awesome dude to be around, he can give you a lot of knowledge.”

Allen, who’s been in Los Angeles during Williams’ two seasons at USC, has been impressed with what he’s seen from the young quarterback.

“Hell of an athlete,” Allen said last week. “Obviously, he can make tremendous plays with his feet, with his arm. Looks like he knows the game really well. Really good.”

It already seems like Chicago’s new QB-WR duo is connecting.
