After being left off the U.S. women’s basketball team roster in June, rookie Caitlin Clark has been making waves with her exceptional performance in the WNBA. Dawn Staley, the current South Carolina women’s basketball coach and former head coach of Team USA, recently suggested that Clark's play before the All-Star break may have warranted a spot on the national team.
Staley, who is also a committee member responsible for selecting the team, acknowledged that Clark's performance has significantly improved since the initial roster decisions were made. She praised Clark's skills, highlighting her elite passing, exceptional basketball IQ, and improved performance on the court.
Clark's statistics speak for themselves, with an average of 17.1 points and 8.2 assists per game for the Fever. Notably, she set a new record for the most assists in a single game with an impressive 19 assists against the Dallas Wings.
Staley emphasized that if the selection process were to be revisited, Clark would be in high consideration for a spot on the team due to her outstanding performance in recent months. Despite being a rookie in the WNBA, Clark has demonstrated remarkable growth and skill development, making her a standout player in the league.
With her exceptional shooting, playmaking abilities, and basketball acumen, Caitlin Clark has proven herself as a force to be reckoned with on the court. Her rapid progression and impact on the game have garnered attention and praise from basketball enthusiasts and experts alike.
